If you already meet these criteria, then great you can now book into the Safer Drivers Course for Learner Drivers!

The first step is to choose a date that suits you for the classroom component or Module 1 of the course. This is a three-hour classroom style session that is interactive and fun.

You will need to be dropped off, ensure you can make the date you choose, but please let the person dropping you off know they can’t sit in on the training session. We have great amenities close by and they can come back to get you after the session is completed.

You must present yourself to training before the start time of the session along with ensuring you have 50 completed on-road logbook hours (not including bonus hours from a driving school) or your booking will be forfeited along with your fee. We cannot allow you to start the training if you are late. To complete this booking process you must also book your session time and date for Module 2.

It is well documented that novice drivers (17 years to 25) are at greater risk, with inexperience a major factor in motor vehicle accidents!

Safer Driving Academy

Learning to 'drive safely' requires physical skills, awareness and the ability to communicate a defensive driving attitude with other road users. Ian Luff Motivation Australia Pty Ltd (Est. 1983) is Australia's pioneering post licence driver training academy. The principal, Ian Luff helped kick start what has been referred to as the advanced and defensive driver training industry back in 1972.

The driving environment has become extremely complicated and there have never been more crashes causing harm on our roads as there is today.

This is why the NSW Government has addressed the need for improved learning by introducing the 'Safer Drivers Course.' Once 50 on-road log book hours are completed (NOT INCLUDING BONUS HOURS FROM A DRIVING SCHOOL), any NSW learner (under 25) can book into the 'Safer Drivers Course.'

The course involves a theoretical session of 3 hours and practical on-road coaching session of 2 hours. It teaches learner drivers how to assess road conditions, looking for hazards that could cause a danger and many more important relevant topics. Learners must be under 25 years of age and hold a valid NSW Learner Drivers Permit to be eligible. Call us also to see if you qualify for the disadvantaged Learner Initiative where this course may be free of charge under the right conditions.

Our organisation is fully accredited by the RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) to facilitate the program, once completed we are permitted to accredit you with 20 additional hours in your logbook. This is a huge incentive to complete the program and give you the safer driving advantage.

Course Structure

This program consists of two module's, the first module is a three-hour classroom session conducted with up to 12 participants where awareness scenarios are discussed along with hazard perception and anticipation methods. Peer pressure is discussed along with cognitive overload that many young drivers suffer from. Module 2 is a two-hour on road driving session shared with another learner driver, using our Hyundai i20 vehicle's (with safe dual controls) our qualified instructors guide the pair through elements of the module in real time, allowing both attendees time to observe and reflect on the key messages. Both modules do not need to be completed on the same day.

Both modules do not need to be completed on the same day.

The course deals with different road conditions, understanding factors beyond a drivers control and also helps identify risks on the road.

Former NSW Roads Minster Duncan Gay

safer drivers course carTo enroll in the course learner drivers must have 50 hours completed in their log book (on-road driving hours only). Learner drivers have to complete 120 supervised hours to gain their P Plates. Under this NSW Government supported program, young drivers have the ability to reduce their supervised driving hours from 120 to 100. Combined with just 10 hours of professional tuition from a driving instructor (with the 3 for 1 scheme) this reduces your minimum total hours required to just 80.

The Ian Luff 'Safer Driving Academy' is accredited by RMS (Roads & Maritime Services) to conduct the Safer Drivers Course. Ask us about our learner driving tuition, we don't just teach you to pass the test, we teach you to Drive to Survive!
